State of Tripura, India
August 2008
This experiment takes place in a cluster development project initiated by IL&FS and the State of Tripura. This is about meeting the artisans and, observing first where they are, both technically and culturaly, try to imagine some furniture, and help them go different places.
The experimental armchair is a bamboo structure that holds two cotton padded cushions. A woven sleeve is then streched to maintain the different elements together. The tension can be adjusted with the side strings.
The sleeve is made out of sheetal patti, a localy grown grass, known fot its natural cooling and healing properties.
Basketry experiments were made during a one week workshop with artisan weavers, exploring new applications for their skill.
